Rush has a problem – he simply detests the fact that American voters elected a Democrat as president for the next four years. And, to boot, a president who was labeled the “most liberal” in the Senate.  He can’t over it, and he has no intention of getting over it.  But Limbaugh’s rantings can be expected – he is a puffed-up,  talking head – full of hot air.

Limbaugh wants Obama to fail – his words, “I hope he fails.”  But, hold it.  He clarifies those four choice words by saying that they were taken out of context.  He really meant that if Obama’s policies involve government intervention to fix a broken health-care system, to instill a new way forward to energy independence, to salvage banks in order to shore up the financial markets, and on and on, then he wants Obama to fail.  Okay – clarification noted.

But his comments about Obama’s actions involving the Maersk Alabama border on the insane.  Here is his statement:

RUSH: You know what we have learned about the Somali pirates, the merchant marine organizers that were wiped out at the order of Barack Obama, you know what we learned about them? They were teenagers. The Somali pirates, the merchant marine organizers who took a US merchant captain hostage for five days were inexperienced youths, the defense secretary, Roberts Gates, said yesterday, adding that the hijackers were between 17 and 19 years old. Now, just imagine the hue and cry had a Republican president ordered the shooting of black teenagers on the high seas.

They were kids. The story is out, I don’t know if it’s true or not, but apparently the hijackers, these kids, the merchant marine organizers, Muslim kids, were upset, they wanted to just give the captain back and head home because they were running out of food, they were running out of fuel, they were surrounded by all these US Navy ships, big ships, and they just wanted out of there. That’s the story, but then when one of them put a gun to the back of the captain, Mr. Phillips, then bam, bam, bam. There you have it, and three teenagers shot on the high seas at the order of President Obama.

The pirates were “merchant marine organizers?”  Would that kind of organizer be similar to the community organizer status that Obama held in Chicago?  The role that Limbaugh and his ilk mocked and likened to a socialist front?  Of course not.

They were kids?  Would that be the type of kids that Limbaugh would have their heads here in this country if they committed a crime?  Of course.  Had those been American teenagers holding hostages, Limbaugh would have advocated for the swift shot to the head.

His insane rantings sound like he is now touting a position that he has so ferociously trashed for all his years of puffery – the liberal position that he so hates.  He is asking the world to sympathize with what he is labeling three misguided teenagers who were hungry and just wanted to go home.

Apparently, Limbaugh can’t stand any – I say any – success by Obama.  The fact that Obama stood firm on the taking of the ship and its captain and ended the standoff with the safe return of the Captain and its crew is just too much for Limbaugh.

Obama reacted with planning and persistence.  And, his actions were successful with the help of U.S. Naval forces.  Too much for Limbaugh the Loser to acccept, so he has now done an about face, expressing what appears to be sympathy for three teen-age “merchant marine organizers” who tried unsuccessfully to take a ship with an American crew but succeeded in taking an American as a hostage – how pathetic.

Does Limbaugh want Obama to fail?  Yep – and even at the cost of forsaking his own political positions.  Limbaugh continues to be a losing, bag of hot air – no more clarification needed.

  1. Honest Abe says:

Obama, contrary to what you state here did NOT plan anything. The Navy Seals and their commanders planned it, all of it. Obama’s advisors told him of the plan, and he said shoot the bastards.

  2. Honest Abe:

When I say he planned, I am talking about his role as Chief Executive and his authority to either approve or disprove the plan. I would assume Obama had to approve the plan. They couldn’t have proceeded had he not discussed the plan, understood it, and moved forward with it. Are you going to dispute that?

I am not taking anything away from the Navy Seals, but to many Obama haters, he couldn’t do anything right. Obama couldn’t win either way. If he had not approved it, he would have been castigated as weak and the Republicans would have been screaming “see, see, we told you so.”

Now you have idiots like Limbaugh actually showing sympathy for those who in any other situation he would have been urging death.

  3. Honest Abe:

By the way here is the statement which I assume caused you such angst:

“Obama reacted with planning and persistence. And, his actions were successful with the help of U.S. Naval forces.”

Read it again and answer me this – did he plan with the Navy Seals as well as his advisers about the course to take? Were his actions as well as the actions of the Navy Seals successful?

I am not sure how you mistook my statement to infer that Obama planned everything.

And, by the way, just curious as to why you latched onto that portion of my post and completely ignored Limbaugh’s rantings.

  4. Marymary says:

Charlotte: you are so reasonable with people who refuse to use logic or reason. I’ve read comments similar to Honest Abe’s this past week. My question to them: What would your opinion have been had the exact same thing happened six months ago, when Pres. Bush was still in office? Of course, he would have been given full credit for forcefully dealing with the situation, maybe even more credit than would have been warranted, given any President’s role in military actions. You can be sure that Limbaugh would not have given a care about the poor background of the Somali pirates, too. The other question I ask is what if everything were the same, but the Navy Seal actions had gone wrong? Honest Abe and his ilk would have been more than willing to chalk that up to President Obama’s incompetence and given him full credit for planning the attack and fumbling it.

  5. Marymary:

Thanks for the additional points. You are so right about the reactions of the Republicans if the plan had failed, or, as you pointed out, if it had happened under the Bush watch.

Limbaugh has become nothing more than a whining baby. To think that he actually is preaching sympathy for the three Somali pirates – regardless of age – is laughable.

  6. Iceironman says:

Charlotte. As I usualy oppose you on most (99%) of topics please take my advice on this one.

YOU ARE PLAYING RIGHT INTO RUSHS’ HANDS ON THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As you may think he is not talking directly to you, he has been. He set up the libs, and you bit on it. You dont even know this because you dont listen to the whole show. It is funny to see it unfold, just as he expected.

You have been beaten!!!!!! He predicted exacly what you would think, how you would react, what you would be offended at!!!!!!!!!!!

I would suggest actualy listening for a few weeks before you start writing on his show. Otherwise he will make you look kind of, well, ignorant.

And your representation of his wanting Obama to fail is wrong. He wants Obama to fail if it means me losing my libertys, and being a socialist. I will say this quite plainly…………………….I HOPE OBAMA FAILs……for the good of Americas long term future. He represents nothing I believe America is about. How about those tea parties? Apparently Im not alone.

  7. Iceironman says:

How much money do you think Rush has raised for the lukemia, lymphoma folks? Do you think when he raises this money (for the last 19 years) that he request it not be given to blacks, hispanics, gays, etc. How about Don Imus? Such hate mongers.

By the way you might want to listen to the praise he gave Obama on the pirate deal.
Obama got caught listening to phone conversations “on accident”, are you going to rail on him?
Five of Obamas cabinet have tax problems, Not a topic.
Spending us into trillions, thats cool. He wants a few trillion, why not 10 trillion, its all good right?

I love cap and trade. To think, a successful company could actualy have to buy credits from POWERLINE, even though I havent produced anything yet.

Back on point, I dont think you should write on Rush anymore unless you listen. His FULL transcripts are available and also podcasts. Not to mention on 1190 wowo at noon till 3. The only thing he fights for is conservatism. If you find the constitution offensive, then you will find him offensive.

If you comment on him and dont listen, you look ill informed.

  8. Ice:

Sorry to disappoint you, but I did not fall into his “trap” whatever that was or is. I noted that he wants Obama to fail if Obama’s policies go in the direction that he just doesn’t like.

I listened to his “praise.” What a slob – he goes on about how great the rescue was and what a great job Obama did and then proceeds to trash everything by saying it will raise Obama’s approval ratings and – gasp – how horrible for the country that will be. God forbid that Americans would stand behind Obama. Again, Limbaugh and many other Republicans just can’t get over the fact that Obama won, and he won handily. His praise is what you would call “back-handed.”

You can put any spin on it you like, but you can’t get away from the facts. It is going to be a long four years for Republicans.

Sorry, I have no intention of listening to his show – I wouldn’t sink that low. The only one that I can think who is worse is Ann Coulter.

  9. Ice:

Read this transcript of Limbaugh’s so-called “praise” and then decide if he really means it or not.

Here is a snippet to get you started:

“I have a preliminary idea here on the movie that will be made by Hollywood that will immortalize this brilliant episode in American foreign policy led by President Obama. We don’t have a working title of this movie. I’m been thinking about President Obama turns on Somali counterparts. The merchant marine organizers, the Somali version of ACORN, and yet President Obama rose to the occasion and saw to it that the Somali merchant marine organizers would not get away with the same tactics that domestic American organizers get away with. Do you realize the Somali pirates — one way to look at this, the Somali pirates tried to hold us up for $2 million ransom for the captain, Mr. Phillips. The Beltway pirates are looking for $10 trillion from the United States and her people, and even if we pony up the $10 trillion ransom demanded by the Beltway pirates, they still wouldn’t release us. We would still be held captive. So the Somali pirates, the merchant marine organizers, I know three of them are dead, but that’s a small price to pay for advancing the notion that the Obama administration is quick and decisive and cool and can handle foreign policy emergencies (snapping fingers) like that.”

Limbaugh is simply making a mockery of the situation – that is not praise. He is an idiot – period.

  10. Marymary says:

Iceironman: Where can I even begin with a response to your ignorance? Please articulate what liberties President Obama has threatened? Please articulate how any of Obama’s policies or proposed policies are actually socialist. (Left of Rush Limbauh is not socialist.) By the way, were you concerned about the Constitution when the most recent President Bush was in office? If not, you should have been. As for the tea parties, so you are not alone in feeling unsubstantiated and inarticulate rage toward President Obama. So what? For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out what people were protesting. You and your ignorant buddies are quite free to protest, but just what are you protesting, exactly? Throwing around terms that you don’t understand, such as “socialist,” making references to Obama’s “mysterious” birth certificate, accusing him of being a Muslim, and shouting about taxes, do not a protest make.

  11. Iceironman says:

You are right, screwing people out of their hard earned money isnt taking away anything. This isnt about Bush, get over it.

The people are protesting because we were told that America would be a pay as you go sociaty. Or paygo as Pelosi stated. Now we are a printgo sociaty. If you cannot agree that this wreckless spending will end up taking away freedoms from me or even my granchildren, we dont really need to talk. This isnt a D or R thing. Yes throw Bush back up, Ill throw Carter and Clinton and Obama. If you agree with the print go system, why not print even more to make poverty go away.

And you are so right, I have no idea what socialism is. Did Obama just fire someone in a private sector? Does this not start the slope? The bailout money going to states has a pretty severe string attached, to start more govt programs.

But, hey, I know nothing about socialism or its attitudes toward the private sector. Wasnt there recently a congress woman who wanted to socialize the oil companies? Yes!! And she is right of Obama.

Keep playing the Bush against Obama game, that is exactly what they want. Me and you fighting each other while they print more money.

  12. Ice:

    Where to start.

Hmm, taking money from people would be what? Taxes? They are legal, or don’t tell me you are going to now climb on that bandwagon that posits that the 16th amendment was never ratified, so therefore, all taxes are illegal.

I will wager that if you looked to see who organized the “tea parties” you would find rabid, right-wing Obama haters. Come on, Alan Keyes showed up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Taxes my foot. He was drafted to try to beat Obama in the 2004 Illinois Senate race – which he lost. And he is still trying to tear Obama down.

Where were the teapartyers when Bush was spending out the wazoo? Oh, that’s right, Keyes wouldn’t have organized anything against his fellow Republican. My paycheck has increased under Obama (and not due to a raise) – something it sure didn’t do under Bush.

As to getting rid of a CEO – so what? We need to get rid of a bunch of Wall Street goons as well. I will go back to the definition of socialism – it is the public ownership of the means of production and distribution. What do financial institutions produce? Nothing other than credit.

Now if the government buys GM or takes it over, that is socialism. Providing loans to any business requires that the business meet certain restrictions. I can’t do just anything with my house – I cannot commit waste or treat it in a way that decreases its value or the bank will be after me for decreasing my home’s value which, in turn, results in a decrease of its investment.

Why should the corporations who take taxpayer money be any different?

  13. Iceironman says:

I dont think I agree that there were “rabid right wing obama haters” organizing these events. Enough is enough. We were speaking out against bush. I dont think you understand the situation. And by the way, I dont know what the meaning of Wazoo is but Obama has taken it much farther than bush, not that bush did a good job finacially but damit come on. You keep taking down wall street goons, the middle class will grow under obama but it will be from the upper class falling down, not raising the lower class up. But you dont care about that, just so some rich person you dont know but generalize into a catagory called “wall steet goon” falls everything will be okay.

And you cant see the new socialism. So, Wagner was asked to resign. What happens when obama gives the order for GM to only order from x company to make y product. The new ceo doesnt want fired and they took the money so they had better listen.

You are wrong, you can demolish your home tomorrow if you like, the bank cannot tell you what to do. They can only tell you you have to pay them back on the contract.

It is amazing, I use the word socialism and everyone on the lib side says “scare tactic” but then the best argument you have is “so what” to obama firing a private citizen.

I find it quite upsetting that you think all of those people just hate obama. We could care less about obama, it is about America. You just dont get it. If I have a next daughter and she is born 40000 dollars in debt because of his budget this doesnt bother you, you come back with “obama hater’…. NO I want a better future for America and it doesnt involve massive debt. That is what the tea parties were. It is average guys like me saying, bush was bad, obama promised change, and here we go again. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Can you agree that printing money isnt good at the rate we are doing it? Can you be somewhat sensible? And again, if 3 trillion is good to print, why not 10 trillion. The tea parties were about anyone who thinks govt is too big. For crap sake, obama himself said today that if one of his cabinet members switched to bulk office supplies they could save 52 million. Does that give you an idea on how out of control govt is?

  14. Ice:

As to Limbaugh’s donations – those are tax deductible aren’t they? At least for the most part. Anyone who gives to charities gets to take a deduction. I could if I wanted to even though I don’t give a huge amount. So while he giveth with one big, fat hand, he dippith with the other.

  15. Ice:

The mortgage says you cannot commit waste – that means I cannot destroy my home. So, if, as you say, I can go ahead and destroy my home, the bank can come after me. What is the difference if the Wall Street corporations or the Big Three begin to trash their businesses at the expense of all of us? They borrowed taxpayer money, so they can be gone after to try to correct the situation. If that means getting rid of a top exec, so be it.

I guess my question, again, would be, where were all those people who “love” America during the Bush years? I don’t recall any tea parties or outrage over taxes.

  16. Marymary says:

Iceironman: All I’m reading is a bunch of vague complaints, likely taken straight from talk radio and/or right-wing websites. Wake me up when you have something new to say.

  17. wickle says:

Iceironman … I listen to Limbaugh. I endure his painfully-insipid show for exactly one reason: So that people like you can’t come back and accuse me of not listening. I get his so-called jokes, and the only one being played here is, in fact, you.

He spells out a simplistic worldview, then tells you how people will react. How? Because it’s painfully obvious how people will react to his inanity.

You, however, mistake it for brilliance.

  18. Iceironman says:

OK, I will say this more slowly. It isnt all about TAXES. It is about what bush started, bailouts etc. and continues on into the new admin as a deficit that will cripple America. Why cant any of you agree that this spending is out of control, govt is out of control. It is about the taxes in the future that my kids will be paying. We didnt have much time to revolt against bush due to his exit, and also being told that if something wasnt done total caos and devistation would break out. That was a lie. Just like Obama saying it also.

Its like the cnn reporter who informed the complaining man, “do you know you are eligible for a 400 dollar rebate?” Did you know the state of Lincoln gets 50 billion?

His response should have been “It is my ^%$#@! Money to begin with, dont act like the govt is doing us a favor by returning our money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He should have also set her straight on what a reporter does. She was so unprofessional.

Just ignore the letter behind the persons name and see what you think of their policies.

If people would see how far off base America is going.
No one complains about ss anymore it is just normal
no one complains about income taxes it is just the norm
no one complains about outragous sales taxes on cigs and other products (gasoline) it is normal
The norm has to change. If we would be allowed to keep all of our money then the govt come take possesions, things would be different. Now taxes will have to go up in the future to pay for this great health care system all of the lazy people want. Im pretty sure if a country Is hurting as bad as they say we are, we really shouldnt start more social programs.

The long and short of it is, we need to decide what the constitution says. Does it guarentee health care?

As for me, give me life, liberty and I will make my happyness, the govt cant do that.

And it is funny how if I agree with another consevative, Im just a sheep. Mary, you said I am just reiterating talking points. No, Im stating my position on out of control spending. To which, you will not respond (or any of you for that matter).

I will state if as plainly and clearly as I can. I dont think spending trillions and trillions is good for a nation. Do you?

  19. Marymary says:

  20. Iceironman says:

Mary your stance is that of a coward. Simple question, simple answer. This is why you and many libs dont get the idea behind not sending a bill to the next generations. You are so self centered and proud, you cant admit what you feel.

The tea parties are about corporations tring to give back tarp money, but the govt wont let them. Is this a good stance by our govt?

Forget I asked another question, answer the first. Bush doubled our debt, you guys complained. Obama has doubled it again in less than 90 days. Simple facts. Is this healthy?

Could one of you other libs please step up and act like an adult and converse on the topic of debt and wasted money by our govt whether it is a d or r?

  21. Iceironman says:

Mary, under the obama plan, as said by Mike Pence on the floor tonight. My and your energy bill will go up by over 3000 dollars a year. Does that take away any freedom?

    Please view.

This isnt up for debate, those in the midwest who depend on coal are screwed. So, are you ready to give up 3000 dollars more a year? Are you ready to give up 1500 more a year for healthcare?

  22. Iceironman says:

Mary, would you like to talk about GE and its green initiative that has so much to gain from a cap and tax(trade). Or would you like to bury your head in the sand and think that GE wont gain from the cap and trade by building windmills? Oh, it must be nice living in the state of perfect govt of Obama.

I agree with Charlotte on this. Corporations should not be accessable to politicians. When they do, we end up with bad law like cap and trade.

  23. Marymary says:

Iceironman: you know virtually nothing about me, but you call me a coward for refusing to go along with your vague protests. Sorry, you haven’t convinced me of anything. I don’t think Obama is perfect. Never said that, never will. I’ll engage in discussion with you when you show that you are capable of posting more than vague, prefab talking points and snide remarks. I’ve read enough of your comments on this blog to know that it is pretty much impossible to engage in a reasonable discussion with you on any topic.

  24. Iceironman says:

Mary, Do you think spending 4 trillion dollars we dont have is a good idea? This isnt a talking point it is what is happening. By your previous remarks, you are not willing to engage. The tea partys were about overspending and the taxes that lie ahead. I know enough about you to say you will not answer the question.
