Every now and then I buy a lottery ticket. Usually I am just too lazy anymore to go in to the gas station since I use my debit card outside 90% of the time.

Yesterday, on my way to Valpo for my youngest granddaughter’s first birthday, I stopped at Speedway and bought gas. Since I was going to be on the road for about two hours, I thought I would go in and get some snacks. I also bought a lottery ticket, and, just like every other soul who purchases one, hoped that this would be my “ticket” to a cushy retirement.

I usually forget to look at the ticket – sometimes for days. But as I was going through my debit receipts to enter them into my checkbook and check them off against my online account, I saw the ticket. I thought what the heck, I’ll check it out.

Wow, you can imagine how my heart skipped as I scanned the numbers and realized I had matched 4 of the 6. I kept thinking I could “wish” the other two into matching, but, alas, that doesn’t happen.

So I checked to see what I will win, and it is roughly $40. Just one more number, and it would have been $1,000. Geez, and just two more, and it would have been the $6,000,000!!

Oh well, better luck next time!  Cushy retirements require much more than a $40 lottery win!!
