PATTY DUKE TO SPEAK AT IPFW’S “TAPESTRY: A DAY FOR WOMEN”

Patty Duke will be this year’s guest speaker at “Tapestry: A Day for Women.” Tapestry is a day-long event that provides the opportunity for renewal and self-growth for women. In past years, guest speakers have included Marlo Thomas, Erin Brockovich, Dyan Cannon, Dana Reeve, and Linda Ellerbee. This year’s event is being held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

Patty Duke (1960s) Patty Duke

Patty Duke, born Anna Marie Duke, has led a life, literally, of highs and lows. She has been and still is a successful movie, theater, and TV star. However, her successess have been tempered with what was to be diagnosed as manic-depression or bi-polar disorder. Once her disorder was diagnosed, she began treatment with Lithium, which stablelized her mood swings allowing her to live a much more normal life.

Today, 50 years after her acting debut, Patty Duke is still active. She continues to work in movies and TV roles and has added the role of spokeswoman for those with mental illness.

She will truly be an inspiring speaker to all the women who attend Tapestry on April 27, 2007.
