Dear Charlotte,

I am blessed to live near the Everglades on a 2-1/2 acre property I have turned into a Wildlife Habitat near the Big Cypress Preserve (you drove through it when running out of gas - it was not the Everglades National Park). Having spent years in Africa I now hike and bike the Everglades and Big Cypress and been fortunate to meet some of its wildlife such as panther and bear. I share your sentiments about the Corps entirely, although I am reasonable enough to realize that they do what they are ordered by the Goverment and are all to efficient at it! I met a charming lady named Malee who hails from Equador and has trekked in the Amazon which forms about half of that country. While possessing the inherited love of the environment through her INCA blood line she is also a professional photographer and together we are involved in a project which will provide the most glorious photos as we trek through this wonderful wilderness. I as the guide and she as the artist. I'll let you know our website address when published.

You are very welcome.

Peter, do you have a specific interest in the whole subject of taxi and/or cruiser partition hazards? Or is it just this case that prompts your comment? I want to help more.

Some of those dictionary definitions are for Classical Liberalism, not American Liberalism, which are two different things in political science. Such as, "favors maximizing individual freedoms, especially as guaranteed by law and secured by government." That statement is more in line with Libertarianism or American Conservatism (Classical Liberalism), than American Liberalism to which I assume you are referring. American Liberalism allows social freedom, but not economic or other freedom, as the other things are best left to the government to handle. So the post is a little skewed in not differentiating between Classical and American Liberalism. If you lived in Australia you would not vote for the Liberal Party, as they are Classical Liberals.

What a person pays for healthcare at 65 compared to the out of pocket cost of Medicare is apples to oranges. Regardless of what level of treatment a person gets, on a fixed income free for mediocre will almost always trump cash for better- that is until a 75 year old, overweight, smoking male needs bypass surgery.

Also, what pays for Medicare? Obama-ites will have you believe government does. All that means is that YOU pay for it. Also, those evil doctors so many people are twitching to burn subsidize current social healthcare by reducing their fees to accept those programs. In turn, the insurance companies help subsidize those reduced rates by paying higher medical premiums for folks who have insurance coverage. Simple economics that escape the "brightest" of the Obama administration.

Charlotte said, "And, if you don’t have insurance, you are pretty much out of luck."

This is the one of the largest pitchers of Kool-Aid served by progressives that is offered in such quantities as to necessitate drinking straight from the pitcher. Where is there someplace in this country that if a person needs emergency medical care they can't get it on the taxpayer's dime? How many of your 12-30 something million uninsured are so out of choice or stupidity? Furthermore, how much of our current system can be fixed by eliminating certain government regulations that increase the cost of business for insurance companies- that one's tough 'cuz the question isn't being seriously asked at the White House.

Listen to the politicians and you've got your answer. It's not about who has insurance. Oh, no! It's about who has "access to affordable healthcare". Excuse me? I thought we were trying to help those who are uninsured- not those who are inconvenienced by some arbitrary determination of what is not affordable. I've got great insurance, but if I compare what I pay to "free" then hell yeah my insurance isn't "affordable".

Hence, it's not about healthcare. It's about the money and who controls it. If you think Haliburton is a monstrosity just wait until the government contracts open up for managing the National Healthcare bullet to the head.

Man, I'm diggin' a lot of what you write. Only problem is that you are so focused on trying to make Republicans look bad when these types of occurences are regular throughout both parties.

Being as you are progressive, I am curious as to how you justify the massive national bill for social programs and foreign aid along with an impending expansion through healtchare. Unconstitutional spending is unconstitutional.

Such a law could rip out the entirety of excess that has this government looking to the Constitution as a quaint, historical marker rather than a binding agreement between the People and their representatives. This would include waste by contractors as well as overeaches of influence by non-profits including unions.

Charlotte, looks like you're trying to make a case against Republicans with an argument that you will find bipartisan support among the "average folk".
