PAVED PARADISE AND PUT UP A PARKING LOT – THE FATE OF CEDAR CREEK

Posted by Charlotte A. Weybright on June 17, 2008

We will soon know whether this is to be the fate of the Cedar Creek area. Last week’s hearings have not resolved anything and have, unfortunately, pushed the issue to the back burner somewhat. Just what the Bodenhafers surely wanted.

ACRES is making a valiant effort to save the acreage; however, the price will be high, if not out of sight. The Bodenhafers have, over the years, bought up pretty much the entire corner between Coldwater, Chapman Road, and Richey Lane. And, they astutely bided their time waiting for the proper moment and situation to occur which would allow them to exploit the development potential of the land.

The information contained on the Allen County GIS website shows the following information and values for the properties:

Parcel No.

Acreage

02-02-03-300-008.001-057

20.02

$ 11,100

I truly hope that the ACRES representative will be able to somehow work out a deal with the Bodenhafers, but, let’s face it, looking at the undeveloped values provided on the GIS site and knowing the land will be worth hundreds of thousands if not millions in a developed state provides little hope that aesthetics will trump greed.

How many “parking lots” will be thrust upon us before we say enough is enough and finally wage real battles to save paradise?

    It will continue to happen as long as us voters return the same people to office. They got into office often with the funds raised or given to them by the very people they appoint to these boards. You see it in the city as well as the county! So get a block of cheese out to go along with all of our wining
