Chris Stewart ended his short city council run with the same energy and enthusiasm he demonstrated throughout his campaign. As he bounded onto the stage to address the crowd, he was smiling, and he was optimistic. “I’ll be back”, he promised the audience, and what a shame if that doesn’t happen. We rarely see such energy and enthusiasm in the campaign process.

While many candidates campaign, they campaign with a sense of reserve. Chris seemed to have an endless and boundless reserve of energy and enthusiasm. His election to City Council would have provided excitement and anticipation to discussions about Fort Wayne’s future. He is a political novice, but every politician has to start at the beginning – no one is born into office. While some may have the benefit of political families and friends, it is the individual himself or herself who absorbs the process and learns how to best serve his or her community.
I look forward to seeing Chris at the forefront of our Fort Wayne political scene – he said he would be back. We should hold him to that promise.
